Brunch at M.B. Post (Manhattan Beach, CA)

I knew that the bacon cheddar biscuits at MB Post would be perfect for brunch. What I didn't know was that Chef David LeFevre had a lot more under his sleeves.

We even went from sweets to savory to sweets again. While waiting for the fourth person in our group to arrive, we started nibbling on the Sticky Buns with pecan and brown sugar ($6). This one's a must-get for the sweet-toothed, or just to share with the group.

Between the four of us, we tried many a great cocktails ($12 each), from the Last Rites (Sangria with Compass Box “Oak Cross” Scotch, lambrusco, pear, quince, hibiscus) to the Bloody Mary-derivative, the Coughlin’s Law (Tito’s Vodka, Belgian Pilsner, tomato, dill, bacon, and quail egg) and MO-PHO-JITO (mojito w/ starr, kaffir lime, mint, ginger, coriander honey).

A bowl of oro blanco grapefruit salad with grapes and honey is a lovely way to either start or finish light.
Oro Blanco
The fruits in this bowl was so sweet and fresh, they barely needed anything else!

Other than the famous bacon cheddar biscuits, MB Post is now offering fresh bagels on the weekends and soon you can order either one to-go by the half dozens, or have them at the restaurant with some cream cheese.
Bagel
The light, healthy streak continues with the Post granola and vanilla greek yogurt. The best part was the addition of candied ginger.

For something substantial but still healthy and relatively light, go with the Frittata, made with Weiser farm potato, sprouting brocoli, white cheddar, piperade ($14)
Frittata
It's slightly spicy and will fill you up without weighing you down.

Being a fan of kale, I really enjoyed the Turkey Sausage Patty with sage, cavolo nero (the fancy word for kale), and maple.
Sausage
The turkey sausage itself was moist and very flavorful, and pairs well with the earthy greens. I would definitely get this again.

The eggs benedict ($13) is served atop the famous bacon cheddar buttermilk biscuits, with arugula, la quercia procuitto, and hollandaise sauce.
Eggs Benedict
The runny egg yolk was intensely orange, which tells you just how flavorful it was. Over a buttery bacon biscuit, it was pure decadence.

For obvious reasons, I wanted to try the truffle honey laced fried chicken, served with kholrabi slaw ($15)
Truffled Honey Chicken
I liked the crunchy skin, but if only these were dark meat pieces... I just can't like white meat as much.

Chimichanga with scrambled egg, chorizo spiced pork, pepperjack, yam, Jimmy's moms salsa verde
Chimichanga
Chimichanga is usually a fried burrito but here Chef LeFevre replaced the tortilla with pastry dough, which I also found to work better. Using yam instead of regular potatoes really gave this chimichanga a distinct flavor. I think I preferred the other dishes, but if you're a fan of breakfast burritos, definitely give this one a try.

For the bacon lovers, instead of looking for bacon in other dishes, just get a whole order of Nueske's bacon with rosemary, brown sugar and chili

Think candied fatty bacon. Mmmm.

We started off with sticky buns but we had to finish sweet again. Thankfully, there's still the French Toast stuffed with quince and ricotta, star anise macerated pears, and chestnut honey
French Toast
Not as decadent as the sticky buns, but still rich and moist. I thought the star anise flavored pears were the star of the dish - I couldn't stop eating them along with the chestnut honey.

Our brunch at MB Post was a big hit with great food and great cocktails all around. I can't wait to return! As usual, you can go both healthy or indulgent with Chef LeFevre's menu. A stroll down to the beach is recommended to walk off the calories you would consume here.

Hi Fiona! How are you? We might have been at MB POst at the same time. I just wrote about it too.
Loved your review. How did I miss that turkey patty with kale?
