Falling In Love with Longman & Eagle (Chicago, IL)

It was our third meal of the night, but a Michelin-starred gastropub wasn't something we wanted to pass up. In the end, we're so glad we went, because we fell in love with Longman and Eagle.

The cocktails here are excellent and they're only $8 each. I love Chicago! We drank quite a bit that night. There were $2 special Evan Williams shots around the table and conbon found her ultimate Old Fashioned.

That's my excuse for not really remembering what cocktails I had, but I am guessing this was the La Perla with tequila, Cocchi Americano, grapefruit, and habanero shrub.

We decided to just share a few plates since we were already full, and started healthy with the roasted cauliflower with beluga lentil and yogurt curry sauce

Steak and edamame with lobster tater tots. Lobster tater tots!

The desserts sound particularly enticing here. The first was a lightly savory dessert: warm gruyere donuts, fig jam, hazelnut mascarpone, wild flower honey ($9)

We also loved the Maple and bourbon cornbread pudding, huckleberry compote, date-bourbon custard, charred olive oil ice cream - especially the charred olive oil ice cream.

The next morning our plan to get Hot Doug's fell through since they were closed for some weird reason (something to do with some famous person's anniversary of some sort?). Well, that just frees up our time to return to Longman and Eagle! The brunch just reconfirmed our love for L&E.
IMG_7940The cocktail I had my eye on was only available for brunch, so the second visit was the perfect time for me to get my Spice Trade (El Dorado 5y rum, Batavia Arrack, housemade chai tea, Tiki bitters, $8). This is the perfect brunch cocktail for me.

Of course, you can't say no to a maple bacon donut. This is a much better version of maple bacon donut than we have at Nickel Diner

For my entree, I ordered the Sunny Side Duck Egg Hash with duck confit, shallots Yukon Gold potato, black truffle vinaigrette ($12)

This was a good breakfast plate, although my eyes and tongue were envious of everyone else's dishes, too, like the fried chicken and waffles.
My favorite turned out to be the Pork belly Cubano, ham, fontina, dijonaise, housemade zucchini pickles ($11)
Cubano Sandwich
Crunchy bread, succulent pork belly, and great pickles. This was a great sandwich, I wish I was the one who ordered it!

Longman and Eagle was one of our favorites from the Chicago trip and I plan on making return visits here on my next trips. I had long wished there would be something like it in Los Angeles. That has yet to happen, but we do now have one of their bartender alum at the newly opened littlefork! More on that on the next post, so stay tuned.
