Pork Chop and Beers at Carson House (Beverly Hills, CA)

Sure there are an abundance of gastropubs in LA, but you can't say the same of Beverly Hills. In fact, Carson House on Wilshire Blvd may be one of the only ones offering such a big beer selection.

I've been to Carson House once for lunch and once for dinner.
For lunch they serve sandwiches, pizza, and a few entree dishes like this roasted salmon with forbidden rice.

Perfect for a nice, healthy lunch.

I indulged more during dinner. We started with the Grilled watermelon salad, heirloom tomato, basil, Dutch feta, lemon vinaigrette
Watermelon salad
I really liked the combination of flavors here. The feta was not crumbled but served as a whole slice which added to the texture contrast of the salad. I thought this really distinguished the salad from the usual watermelon feta combo.

Chicken lollipops (chicken meatballs, buffalo plum glaze, blue cheese whip)
Chicken balls
These are a little spicy! Luckily the blue cheese whip is there to curb the spiciness.

IMG_7445 The cocktails here are nice but I'd opt for their large beers on tap selection. They have a rotating selection of both local and other craft beers on their 16 taps. Occasionally they would even have some rare beers from lauded breweries such as Sun King.

I wouldn't normally order pork chop but our waiter highly recommended it, so I decided to try the Shake and Bake (6 Point Farms Kurobuta pork chop, panko parmesan crust, apple compote)

Surprisingly great! The pork chop itself was perfect. It was very tender and juicy, covered in savory Parmesan crust. This was certainly our favorite of the night and we both would go back for this!

Butternut squash ravioli, sage beurre blanc, crispy sage leaf

I like the crisped edges of the ravioli here and the aroma of the sage. If only there were more crispy sage leaves!

The Shoals (PEI mussels, littleneck clams, grilled prawns, chorizo, garbanzo, garlic crostini)

This was okay, but underwhelming compared to the other dishes. There should be more broth and the broth should be more flavorful.

For dessert we had the blondies. They're messy to eat because of the ice cream, but rich and delicious.

All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by my meal at Carson House. I liked the beer selections and the food was better than I had initially expected. In particularly, I was very surprised at how good the pork chop was!
