Atticus Creamery & Pies (West LA)

by guest blogger @btsunoda

If you haven’t noticed, pies have made a comeback. Doing a simple search on pies in the LA area yields a lot more than simple coffee shops. Many bakeries are featuring pies in a big way and I found that many pie shops now exist. Atticus Creamery & Pies is a new dessert shop in West LA. What is unique about their operation is that they are first and foremost a pie shop.

Each day, they painstakingly hand roll their crust and slowly assemble their pies by hand using natural ingredients. Unlike traditional pies that only have a crust and a filling, Atticus makes unique four-layered pies. They begin with their hand rolled crust, then add a filling such as fresh fruit jam, then layer another filling such as mousse or custard. It is then topped with light cream with additions such as caramelized popcorn or toasted pieces of coconut. IMG_1024

In addition to traditional flavors like banana coconut, they offer unique flavors such as earl grey, strawberry pistachio and blueberry cheesecake. Atticus even takes the extra measure to make their own housemade caramel for their salted caramel pie. Like their other pies, the salted caramel pie is also 100% natural.

Small samples are available free of charge and of the ones that I tried out, I really liked the raspberry cheesecake and the earl grey pie. Atticus didn’t make the earl grey pie too sweet which made it pleasing for those who aren't into super sweet desserts. I enjoyed the buttery and crispy nature of the crust.

Gourmet ice cream and sorbet is also housemade by Atticus and they have approximately 15 different flavors available. Don’t expect to find chocolate, vanilla or strawberry here. Atticus creates unique flavors such as lemon lavender and Nutella Ferrero Rocher. IMG_1031
I tasted a few of them and I’d have to say my favorite was the salted chocolate bacon pretzel brittle. It was the best of a sweet and salty taste combined with the crunchiness of brittle. In addition to their retail shop, Atticus also does catered events and weddings. Last year, they were featured on the Fox series, MasterChef Junior. If you don’t have time to drop by their West LA shop, you can use Doordash LA or Postmates (and get $10 off your first order with code SQ11) to have it delivered to your door.
