Barking Crab (Boston, MA)
Barking Crab is a tourist spot but it's also an institution in Boston's Fort Point. It's a casual seafood spot - in a tent with a view of the water and the city of Boston. With that New England clam shack-like setting and the faux grass in a heated tent, Barking Crab is a meeting place that feels like summer all year long.
Obviously, I had to try the crab at Barking Crab. They offer three types and I chose the one I haven't had before: Bairdi crab ($31)
Bairdi crab is a type of snow crab but usually has sweeter meat, so (naturally) I like it better than snow crab. This was the first time I've heard this crab - or at least had one knowingly.
A classic New England appetizer: Fried whole belly clams ($15)
And another: New England clam chowder
The clam chowder here is much better than a certain well-known seafood chain in the city, this one actually had a generous amonut of clams.
Naked Lobster roll
Toasted buns, lobster meat with hot butter.
I actually had gone to Barking Crab before for a party earlier that summer. Among the passed appetizers that day, I tried the crab cakes, which were good with a lot of crab meat.
Another hit were the juicy bacon wrapped scallops!
For dessert I had the Boston cream pie since I had a friend visiting me from out of town - we had to try the city's signature dessert! I enjoyed the one at The Barking Crab - it wasn't overly sweet or rich, just the right amount of cream and chocolate icing.
When the weather permits, it's fun to sit outside by the water at this spot. While it's a bit of a touristy spot, Barking Crab is still a fun experience with great views and good (albeit not cheap) seafood. Grab some friends and sit in the tent with beers and crack some crab legs for a good time.
