Previewing the Nantucket Wine Festival

It's almost time for the ultimate New England island-style food and wine celebration. It's almost time for Nantucket Wine Festival. I recently got to preview some of the food and wines that will be at the 5-day celebration up at State Room, with a view of the Boston Harbor (you'll be getting a different harbor view on Nantucket!)

The Nantucket Wine Festival will take place on May 18-22, 2016 and will feature over 50 events including various tasting seminars, breakfast on the harbor, and grand tastings in which over 600 wines will be poured.

Among the numerous participating chefs is Chef David Blessing from Longwood Events. Longwood runs four event venues around New England, including State Room, where I had some great hors d'oeuvres including the crispy pork belly below. Of course, many Nantucket restaurants will be participating, but there will also be a lot of Boston restaurants including Yvonne's, Townsman, Toro, Alden and Harlow, Craigie on Main, and others.

Other than the official NWF events, there will also be various independently hosted wine dinners at restaurants all around Nantucket throughout the weekend, so you can maximize your time on the island.

Of course, even without those, there are plenty to eat at the festival itself with a Culinary Tent, cheese pairings, wine dinners, and luncheons. Vermont Creamery will also be returning to the island this year, bringing their award-winning goat cheeses.

They have plenty of great new products this year that you should be sure to try, including a vanilla creme fraiche and a cranberry orange cinammon fresh goat cheese log.

I tasted some of the wines that will be poured at the festival, including Veuve Clicquot, Chateau d'Esclans (who provided the Whispering Angel Rosé), Newton Vineyard, Cliff Lede, and Bodegas Borsao.

Those are just a select few. They will definitely bring some big guns to the festival. Other wineries who will be participating include boutique and famous names such as Dow's Port, Martian Ranch & Vineyard, Royal Tokaji, Silverado Winery, Caymus, and many more.

Don't miss your chance to enjoy the island of Nantucket while indulging in the best food and wines out there at the same time! You can see the full event list here.
