The First Pig Roast at The Gallows (South End, Boston, MA)

The popular South End spot, The Gallows, recently held their first family-style Pig Roast on April 4. The event was successful so hopefully we will see more of it!
This was actually my first time at The Gallows, and I like the themed decorations like the ouija board on the wall.

The Pig Roast was $30 per person for a lot of great food, as you will see shortly!

When we got seated, we were served popcorn. First I thought it was bacon caramel popcorn, but even better - it was popcorn with cracklings! I kind of just went for the cracklings.

Everyone also gets sweet cornbread and sweet tea.

I had to start with some cocktails, of course. The Gallows also has a couple of cocktails on tap including The Regina George (rum, lime, mint, campari, and sparkling wine, $12)

Then .. the chef wheeled out the main attraction, whole roasted pork! The crowd oohs and aaahs :)

The pork was served family style with sides that include mac and cheese, rice and beans, ..

... and also collard greens. Obviously, everyone shouldn't miss the mac and cheese, but the rice and beans were also quite good.
The Gallows
The roast pork itself was one of the best ones I've had lately - none of that dry pork here. All the parts that we got were juicy and tender, but especially so for the pork belly that we requested. We definitely scored with these delicious pieces.

The menu also promises "a surprise", which, to my delight, ended up being crawfish. Trays of these sweet morsels were brought out and I kept getting seconds and thirds - we know how much I love my shellfish.

There were plenty of food to go around, as they keep bringing trays to refill your plate - with pork, side dishes, and crawfish. It was definitely a great value for just $30, and even more so for people who can eat more than we could (who am I kidding, I can eat a lot).
The Gallows
With how good all the food we had was, especially how juicy the pork was, I definitely plan to return to The Gallows for their regular menu. And you should keep an eye out next time they do a special event like this pig roast (especially for the next pig roast) as they do a good job and offer a great deal!
