Fritzi DTLA: A Game Changer in the Arts District

One of the newer restaurants I was excited to try was Neal Fraser's new Fritzi in DTLA's arts district. I've been seeing a lot of instagrams of their rotisserie chicken, and most importantly, waffle tots, aka potato waffles.
Fritzi
Yes, waffled tater tots. Get it with cheese, always.

The potato waffles can be ordered as a side, or you can get them with an order of the rotisserie chicken
Fritzi
You can order the rotisserie chicken as 1/4 chicken for $15 or 1/2 chicken for $19, and it comes with your choice of fries, tots, or potato waffles, and a choice of vegetables of the day. You can also order one of their dipping sauces starting from $0.50 and includes options like green harissa, black garlic aioli, Louisiana aioli, or Vermont beer-cheddar (I love the harissa).

I typically don't order chicken, especially chicken breast, but that's because many times restaurants make them too dry. That won't happen with Fritzi's rotisserie chicken, though, with its perfectly tender and juicy meat.

The vegetable option may include Charred Brussels Sprouts, pickled mustard seeds, manchego, whole grain mustard ($5.50)

The rotisserie chicken was great, but for lunch, I highly suggest that you don't miss the Chicken Confit Sandwich (rotisserie chicken, frisee, muenster cheese, black garlic aioli, $9 - add $2.50 for potato waffles)

The succulent meat of the rotisserie chicken is shredded, then combined with cheese and black garlic aioli on a grilled, butterflied hot dog bun. Get it with a side of potato waffles for an absolutely awesome lunch! This chicken sandwich is one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in recent memory. Get this sandwich.

Fritzi also happens to serve one of the best burgers in the city.
Fritzi
The Fritzi Burger comes with a choice of bacon-beef blend, beef, or turkey - plus a choice of fries, tots, or potato waffles for $11.50. Obviously, I went with bacon-beef blend.

The 4-oz patty comes in between nicely griddled buns, fontina cheese, relish, and thousand island dressing. LA has been buzzing about this burger, and it's easy to see why!

Chef Neal Fraser also owns Fritzi Dog on 3rd St, so you'll find some of those hot dogs here, as well. This time I tried the Snappy O'Brien (housemade smoky snappy dog, smashed tots, grilled peppers, onions, bacon, cheese, ketchup ($8.95)

If you are in the mood for a lighter lunch, they have those options, as well, like this Kale Salad (kale, frisee, cherry tomatoes)

Fritzi sits right next to the Arts District Brewing Company, and the two have a symbiotic relationship. There is a takeout window for Fritzi's food at the brewery and Fritzi serves the brewery's beers on tap. We had a flight of the Velveteen Rabbit oatmeal stout, Stumblin' Dumblin' nitro Irish red ale, Redbird red rye IPA (made and named for Chef Fraser's other downtown restaurant), Azreal Belgian golden strong ale

It's not just beer, though, Fritzi also has some great cocktails. During the day, a caffeinated cocktail is always a good option, like the Red Eye (bourbon, cold brew coffee, maple syrup, bbq bitters, $12)

I love a good coffee cocktail, and the Red Eye is one of my favorites!

If you're feeling like a more tiki-like drink, opt for the Nitro Mai Tai (Martinique rum, Jamaican rum, dry curacao, lime, orgeat, $12)
Fritzi DTLA
Fritzi DTLA is the Arts District's best place to grab a bite right now, for lunch or dinner. The restaurant is spacious and bright, the perfect setting to showcase Chef Fraser's casual-yet-gourmet offerings. It's hard to make a choice here with the craveable chicken confit sandwich, the excellent burger, and the excellent rotisserie chicken. With great cocktails and beers, a visit to Fritzi promises a good time in downtown's Arts District.
