Steak with a View at SER Steak + Spirits (Dallas, Texas)
Dinner is not just about the food. Dining out is an experience, and sometimes the view makes the experience. That is the case at SER Steak + Spirits in the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the food and the service are also solid, making your night admiring the Dallas skyline even more enjoyable.
I visited SER the evening before Valentine's Day, so I got to try the prix fixe menu they had for V-day. They had live music and dancing going on, as well.
The amuse bouche was a spoonful of bay scallops with truffles
I opted for wine instead of cocktails, that night, because how can I say no to some Louis Roederer Cristal champagne?
When I visited in February, SER has just gotten their new Executive Chef, Kevin Spencer, and the Valentine's Day menu really let him show off what he's about while he slowly changes the regular menu. I loved the second course of Kobe tataki, beech mushrooms, soy, avocado, pig ears, orange.
Foie gras, strawberry, leeks, asparagus
Seared foie gras, that's my kind of Valentine's dinner! Instead of the typical sweet sauce that normally comes with foie gras, they tried a different direction here, while the crispness and sweetness of the fresh strawberries cut the richness. I did wish there were more strawberries here, though.
Before the main entree was a palate cleanser of Limoncello, basil, blueberry
I was impressed with the steak I had for my entree: Oak smoked prime New York strip steak, foraged mushroom, marrow.
The steak was perfectly cooked and had a beautiful char on the outside. The oak smoked steak and the earthiness of the mushrooms were great together. I'm usually skeptical of how well restaurant kitchens can churn out their dishes around Valentine's Day, but SER certainly does a job well done. Also, with dishes like kobe beef, foie gras, and steak, their prix fixe menu is also one of the better values I've seen.
For the special celebration, they had set up a special dessert lounge. Guests can opt for either a dessert at the table or access to the dessert buffet!
Where do I start?
Of course, you can order champagne to go with all the chocolates.
I had chocolate truffles, mousse, chocolate covered strawberries, and who knows what else ...
