BOA Steakhouse: dineL.A. Restaurant Week Exclusive Series Preview

by guest blogger Bryan Tsunoda @discovering_LA

Dine L.A. Restaurant Week for Winter 2018 begins Friday, Jan. 12 and runs through Jan. 26. Approximately 300 LA area restaurants are participating for this event. Also returning is dineL.A.’s exclusive series: 16 select restaurants have created a special menu only available during dine L.A. These exclusive dinners start at $95 and BOA Steakhouse in Santa Monica and West Hollywood both return after successfully participating last year.

BOA Steakhouse is modern and has an impressive decor which quickly establishes the tone of the restaurant. We sat in the expansive outdoor patio which is designed to protect its diners from the elements. In January, al fresco dining is unheard of in most cities and I appreciated the experience.

Their dine L.A. menu is a four-course dinner featuring multiple selections per dish and the choices available are quite impressive. Foie Gras Torchon, black truffle cannelloni, Japanese Wagyu and pan seared scallop are just a few of the savory selections. A duo of exquisite desserts round out the last course (you can check out the full menu here).

BOA Steakhouse is well known for their caesar salad.

Prepared tableside it is fun watching the preparation, but it is also prepared to perfection. Foie gras lovers will appreciate the torchon method because it is prepared sous vide and is the ultimate way to prepare foie gras. It was placed on top of a funnel cake with blood orange marmalade giving it a salty and sweet experience.

The Goat Cheese Baklava is also one of their signature dishes.
The honey goat cheese baklava appetizer is flaky, fresh and delicious! The Pan Seared Scallop was seared crisp on the outside and extremely moist on the inside.

Their beverage list is among the best in LA. BOA Steakhouse is the recipient of numerous Wine Spectator awards and their craft cocktail list is extensive. Their signature Manhattan is aged 28 days in an oak barrel and wow, was it smooth.
I asked our server for a pinot noir suggestion and she recommended the Inception Pinot Noir. I really enjoyed the full bodied nature as it matched up well with the steaks. It was complete with notes of raspberry and cranberry.

The 40 Day Dry Aged New York Steak was the epitome of a great New York steak. It was lean and full of flavor. The Japanese Wagyu had a flavorful rub and was grilled in which a way where the exterior was slightly crunchy and the inside was moist. It was full of flavor and extremely tender.
For dessert, I paired a Tawny port with one of their two selections, the Nouveau Cheesecake. The cheesecake was made with mascarpone cream cheese which produces a much lighter cheesecake. The green apple sorbet nicely complemented the cheesecake.

At $95 for this dinner, this is an amazing experience at a great price. Since reservations are required for dine L.A., it is strongly recommended that you make them before they sell out. BOA Steakhouse is the perfect place to enjoy a romantic dinner with delicious food and drink.
