Cham Brings New Addictions to the Menu

Watch out for Cham Korean Bistro's new menu items or you'll end up like me: an addict. Yes, I'm addicted to their new Sesame Kabocha Squash Chips ($5)

Kabocha Squash Chips
The squash is mixed with some rice flour, giving it a chewy, mochi-like consistency on the inside while the outside remains crispy. It's lightly sweet, yet the sesame seeds gave it a nutty and smoky hint. Appetizer, snack, dessert. I'll eat them whenever and will definitely order them whenever I visit Cham but alas, at $5 for half a dozen pieces, I won't be able to take a whole bag home and eat them all day long. I wonder if they'll do a bulk discount ..

Another new menu item is the Sweet Potato Fries (w/ Honey Mustard Sauce) $4

I really enjoyed these fries. They were thick and weren't battered and deep fried. The sweetness really came through and they weren't greasy as other versions tend to be.

Since it's summer, there are cold noodles on the menu also. My friend and I can't handle really spicy food, so we decided to try the Cold Soy Noodles ($8): Buckwheat noodle with a soy noodle sauce, romaine lettuce, pickled radish, pickled seaweed, shredded carrots, and tempura crispies.

It was light and cooling, but not particularly special. The spicy one is probably more interesting.

The rest of Cham remains the same. There are bottled craft beers to go with your meal. A Maredsous, or perhaps Le Chouffe? Yes, there's Hite on the beer menu also, a token typical Korean beer.

There's the ssam, a sizzling plate of Beef Kalbi BBQ with the "Garden Platter" ($13) to wrap the meat in.

Oh, but there's yet another addition to look for: the Peach Cobbler Float ($5). That's beer float for you. Say what? Yep, vanilla ice cream and peach slices are drowned in Lambic and dusted with cinnamon. Because adults need their desserts, too!

Eating a whole one is a bit too much, but half of one isn't quite enough. What a dilemma.

Disclosure: this meal was hosted (but I went back and paid for my own kabocha chips and peach cobbler float).

Peach cobbler float! Oh my. I haven't made a point to try beer/alcoholic floats yet. I will probably be kicking myself whenever I get around to it!
