Indulge: Shakes and Waffle Sandwiches at Bruxie (Orange, CA)

Waffle sandwiches may be one of the few things that would make me venture out to Orange County. That's why when I had an invitation to the avocado cooking demo in Anaheim, I decided to make a day out of it and visit one OC place that's been on my list: Bruxie Waffles.

Most of my fellow bloggers love this place, although one warned me that some of the sandwiches weren't all that. Still, I wasn't deterred and made my drive on a hot summer day. My only problem when I got there was figuring out which one to order. Luckily, when I checked in on foursquare, I saw a tip from a fellow blogger, inomthings, saying to get the Green Eggs and Ham. Well, green eggs and ham it is!

The Green Eggs and Ham ($6.95) was filled ham and cheddar, jumbo egg, mayo, arugula pesto

Waffle and eggs. Yep. I loved this sandwich. The waffle had a nice texture, still crisp as I bit into the sandwich, moist and not doughy inside and holds the sandwich together well. They used good quality ham and cheese, and everything is better with a runny egg!

Since it's a hot day, Kat and I both got a milkshake, though she didn't want to get a sandwich. She got her favorite which is the Dulce de Leche and I ordered the Mint Chocolate Shake ($4.95 each)
Mint Chocolate ShakeCaramel Shake

I was surprised how good these milkshakes were. It wasn't so much the milkshake itself as the quality of the caramel and chocolate they used. No Hershey syrup here, it's rich Belgian chocolate. The caramel in the dulce de leche may be even better. Perhaps next time I should just get a plain ol' waffle for dessert and drizzle that caramel all over it.

There are still so many to try - buttermilk fried chicken and waffle, their special short rib waffle, the Ogura dessert bruxie with red beans - but so far, my first visit was a hit and I shall return!
