Los Angeles Mag's The Food Event 2011 Recap
Hey folks, Kung Food Panda here. I’m back, and again have the privilege of guest blogging on GP’s site. Some of you may remember me from such post as the Chocolate Salon a few years back
One in particular was the Flan de Elote from Playa Rivera. My main regret was not going back for seconds and third of this flan. Simply, my favorite thing I ate that day.
Another tasty bite was the grilled cheese sandwich from The Foundry on Melrose. I probably could have ate an entire sandwich, instead of the one bite.
On a hot, sunny day like this particular day, the ceviche from Gladstone fits the bill quite nicely!
The chef at Tra di Noi proudly shows off his truffle polenta dish. This, I went back for seconds!
The steak, chicken ball with a squid ink sauce from Savory seemed like an odd combination, but it worked. It was one of the tastier bites of the day.
Japanese Trio from Onyx.
Of course, a meal wouldn’t be complete without some dessert. In this case, for me, it was some Fonuts. Even though I’m not a fan of donuts, since it’s usually deep fried, I found these baked versions quite tasty.
As a whole, I probably only sampled about a quarter of the food that was available that day. Surprisingly (or maybe not so much), I hung out mostly at the wine and beer booths on this warm afternoon. I had too much fun drinking refreshing Hoegaarden White and Stella, then taking pictures of them. My apologies. The crowd was lively, the drinks and food was aplenty, and as I mentioned earlier, I love the location of this event. I have noticed the increase in attendance compared to my first time there, but even so, the lines for food and alcohol were quite manageable.
For those that have yet to attend this year, I’d encourage you to do so. I do think with the amount of food and alcohol present, it’s definitely worth the price of admission. I hope to make it back in 2012, as it’s probably my favorite food event here in Los Angeles. There were lots of chances to interact with the chefs and staff of the restaurants, and it’s definitely a different environment compared to dining at the restaurant. Listen to the Panda. Until next time, Kung Food Panda, out!
