Foie Gras Fantasy Comes True at Mistral Kitchen (Seattle, WA)

It was our last night in Seattle, and it dawned on me that I had not had foie gras while eating my way in another state! I suddenly started craving it and convinced everyone else to go eat foie with me. Our Seattleite friend suggested Mistral Kitchen. Seeing they had seared foie gras on the menu and the fact that it was nearby we decided on it.

We originally just wanted to come here for some foie and drinks and ordered some Seared Foie Gras to share ($19)

Seared Foie Gras

We haven't had it in so long and the seared foie was so good! We also had to get the Foie Gras Torchon, black mission fig balsamic compote ($15)

We were pretty hungry by this point and since both the foie gras dishes were really good, we decided to eat dinner here after all. At this point I was going to order the lamb loin. We were sitting at the bar and I joked to the bartender that it would be awesome if they could put the seared foie on the lamb. Our bartender said that sure we can! They make dreams come true here!

Woah. So we customized our own dish.
Anderson Ranch lamb loin with chanterelle mushrooms and seared foie gras on top. All the staff in the open kitchen turned to look our way to see who the crazy people ordering this were. The results? Absolutely amazing.

The combination actually worked perfectly. The fatty foie gras that melts in your mouth added a great layer of texture and flavor to the lamb and the chanterelles were simply beautiful.

I enjoyed the Kentucky Cartel made with Bulleit bourbon, Canella tequila, clover honey, Old Fashioned bitters and Laphroaig rinse. There are classic drinks like Delicious Sour, Moscow Mule, and Caipirinha. At this point someone ordered a drink that apparently came in a flask! I've been drinking all day so I can't quite remember which drink it was. I think it was the daily featured cocktail "Bella" (Oola gin, Creole Shrubb, green Chartreuse, Peychauds - $15)

After making jealous comments I demanded a drink in a flask, too, and true to his new "dream maker" nickname, he's willing to put any drink that doesn't contain soda in a flask.

We also got some Parisienne gnocchi, mushroom ragout, parmesan ($20)

Fluffy gnocchi, earthy flavors. Deliciously comforting in the cold (I was freezing in Seattle!).

Our craziness didn't end. I mean, dessert with foie gras torchon is the obvious next step, right?? We asked for a foie torchon on our sticky toffee pudding. The pastry chef thought we were nuts and we gave her the "But we're from Californiaaaa" plea, and she finally relented. Not the sticky toffee pudding, though, she promised to do something that would actually work with the foie. So what we got was the Honey Semifreddo and Walnut Financier, sandwiching a foie gras torchon, with figs and raspberry sorbet!

Probably a lot better than our sticky toffee foie concoction would've been :)

Mistral Kitchen was a blast! We had really great food, great drinks, and a fun bar and kitchen staff tending to our craziness. We loved Mistral Kitchen and I will be back next trip!
