Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Recipes + Chatting with Food Stylist Susan Spungen

Did you see all the cute food characters in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2?? Like the slider spiders and hippopotatomus? Well, if you want to recreate those to impress people (or kids), here are some recipes from food stylist Susan Spungen:

Arent't they cute?

I talked a bit to Susan Spungen, who not only worked in the kitchen before and published a few books, but has worked as a food stylist for various magazines and films, including Julie and Julia. I asked her how she got into food styling for the movies, and she said the director for Julie and Julia, Nora Ephron, called her because she had seen her work elsewhere.

I asked her what the most challenging thing about food styling is, and she says for the movies it is the unpredictability of it. You never know what's going to happen with the filming schedule. Once she had to prepare food for the scene that was to be shot during the last part of the day three times because the filming kept running behind.

Susan recently published a book about entertaining at home, called What's a Hostess to Do? Her book is very comprehensive, covering everything from recipes to tips from various types of parties. For those of you thinking about a career in food styling, Susan suggested the best thing to do is to find a good mentor and work for that person a bit. That way you'll get an idea what it's all about and if you really like it.
