The Birthplace of Key Lime Pie? (Key West, Florida)

Happy Pi Day! In honor of this day, I'm sharing about my visit to Key Lime Pie Factory. This small shop in Key West, FL is said to be the birthplace of the key lime pie. But, a lot of other places also claim to be "the original" and Epicurious had a nice story about the history of key lime pie (and how key limes were wiped out by a hurricane and most of the local limes are now Persian limes ....)

Dating back to ... 1856? Wow, that's a long time ago.

I've had plenty of key lime pies while I was in the Keys, so here I wanted to try the frozen key lime pie, dipped in chocolate. They serve it on a stick, stabbed through a Styrofoam plate so you don't spill.

For me, I can't eat too much key lime pie because the tartness gets to me over time, but the chocolate coating really helps temper that, so I could actually eat the whole thing. It's a good key lime pie and I thought the flavors were enhanced with the chocolate!

I didn't get to explore the food as much as I'd like in the Florida Keys, and I had a hard time eating as well as I normally do, but at least I had a blast jet ski-ing around the island!
