Spring Menu at Umami Burger

This spring brings new options for the vegetarians and non-meat eaters to Umami Burger. I checked out the one in Old Town Pasadena and decided it was one of the few times I can bring my vegetarian friend.

We started with the Avocado Toast (toasted challah, crushed avocado, wild baby arugula, herbs, miso grapefruit dressing, sunny side up egg ($6, add bacon for $1)
Avocado Toast
Instead of just a spread of avocado, there are plenty of chunks on top of the toast. Being an avocado lover myself, I really enjoyed this, especially when combined with the runny egg yolk. Out of the spring additions, this was my favorite.

There are 2 special burgers for the spring.
One is not vegetarian, but a turkey burger instead: The Springbird (turkey patty, ricotta and fresh goat cheese, marinated portobello, braised kale, apple crema - $12)
Turkey
The braised kale was actually a little bit spicy, to my surprise. It may be a turkey burger but the creaminess and spiciness made it pretty substantial. It was a bit messy to eat, though, since the kale was piled so high.

Caprese Burger (roasted portobello cap, basil almond pesto, burrata, heirloom tomato, wild baby arugula, truffled balsamic glaze - $14)
Caprese Burger
Even though I'm not vegetarian, I would eat this burger since I would eat anything with burrata. I thought the portobello might overwhelm the tomato and burrata but it actually worked well, especially with the sweet balsamic glaze.

The Spring dessert is a simple and refreshing Arnie Palmer bowl (green tea ice cream, limoncello sorbet, snickerdoodle cookie- $6)

On other dessert news, Umami Burger has recently partnered up with Coolhaus and will be serving a rotating selection of six ice cream sandwiches. Look for the Brown Buttered Candied Bacon Ice Cream with Chocolate Chip Cookies.
