Ten Tables (Cambridge)

I finally tried Ten Tables in Cambridge, an outpost of the original in Jamaica Plain. It's a popular place - the cozy, dimly lit restaurant was completely packed and it wasn't even a weekend night. As with most other restaurants, they serve locally sourced ingredients, but instead of a hip, modern direction, they went with the comfortable, neighborhood feel.

We went with the tasting menu instead of ordering a la carte, which is $55 for 4 courses.

We started with a tile fish rillette

Followed by Oyster with kombu seaweed, apple, vanilla foam

I liked this surprising dish. I don't normally associate oyster with a creamy broth and vanilla aroma, but after my initial suprise I really enjoyed how the flavors worked together.

Beef cheeks, lentil, escargot, sunchoke chips
Ten Tables
The beef cheeks was wonderfully tender and I like the overall earthiness of the dish, although towards the end I did hope for some contrasting flavor.

Before moving on to dessert, we had a scoop of housemade butternut squash sorbet

This palate cleanser was actually the most memorable thing I had that night. It was refreshing and sweet yet there's that light savoriness of the squash. I could take a whole pint of this home with me.

Dessert was also great, with the housemade goat cheese cheesecake Graham cracker crumble Rose petal gelee, pistachio
Ten Tables

I love goat cheese and this cheesecake does it justice. It had a great texture, creamy but still light enough, and the strong flavor of goat cheese is complemented well by the cinnamony graham cracker crumble at the bottom.

Overall the dinner at Ten Tables was pretty good. The tasting menu provided a good amount of food - while I wasn't stuffed I didn't go home hungry. They interlace more creative dishes with those that are more classic and comforting.
