New Brunch Menu at The Oinkster Hollywood

by guest blogger @iam_robot

Ever since Andre Guerrero opened the first Oinkster in 2006, it immediately became one of the most sought haute burger and shake joint in Eagle Rock and beyond. By now, many of their popular burgers range from Pork Adobo Burgers to Northeast Bacon Cheeseburger are becoming daily Los Angeles staple.

Living of the ethos “Slow Fast Food”, The Oinkster seeks to whip up multi-ethnic and contemporary cuisines utilizing the finest ingredients. They currently have two locations in LA andt hese days, their Hollywood location is changing the breakfast game in the area, better fast food without the high-price or infinite long-lines. Breakfast price ranges from $6 to $11.50, and there are many great options for just $6. You can have 2 versions of equally delicious breakfast sandwich, egg with applewood smoked bacon or egg with fry chorizo hash.

Moving up the ladder at $6.50, I thought the breakfast burrito is the best one I’ve had in a long time.

I like how much filling they wrapped inside the tortilla: Belgian fry chorizo hash, scrambled eggs, sharp cheddar, and bacon. Burrito felt like the perfect to go food – easy grip with no mess or greasy fingers. Finally, the cream of the crop of breakfast menu is the Cluckster Chicken and Waffles w/ Belgian fries.

Priced at $11.50, this is a humongous plate! 4 pieces of waffles with a fried chicken breast on top of their world-famous Belgian Fries. I thought the waffle was spot-on: crisp, light, with subtle hints of sweetness. The fried chicken here was well-spiced with good crunch on the skin, but I wished these chickens weren’t so dry. Luckily, the maple syrup and butter saved the day!

For those looking for healthier fares, fret not! They have a hearty grain bowl with sautéed kale, butternut squash topped with over easy egg and a touch of shaved parmesan. I thought this very much fit the Hollywood lifestyle – the world where we over-glamorized the weekend hiking, the hot yoga, the coconut oil, or the overpriced cold-pressed juices. Nothing bad really, my point is that you can still enjoy delicious food without packing on couple of ounces. Healthy food doesn’t have to be bland, as The Oinkster menu would attest.

All in all, I thought Oinkster always offers a great value. I never really considered them as a fast food joint as I don’t think they have any “shortcut” approach: ingredients are always freshly prepared, meats are seasoned and cooked thoroughly, and menus that are personalized and distinctive. For the longest time, I thought the Royale Burger and the BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich are two of the greatest things at Oinkster, these days I’ll be ordering a lot more of the Breakfast Burrito.
