Farmhouse Brings Farmer-Owned Restaurant to Beverly Center (Beverly Hills, CA)

There's a lot of farm-to-table restaurants these days, especially in California, but how many have a direct connection to a farm? Farmhouse, located at the Beverly Center, is actually owned by local farmer Nathan Peitso from Kenter Canyon Farms. Just to give you a perspective on the farm, I read that more than 20 years ago chef Alice Waters was getting lettuce from Kenter Canyon Farms (founded by Nathan's mother) for her salads at Chez Panisse, so yeah.

Now Nathan Peitso has opened a true farm-to-table restaurant in Beverly Hills, with Chef Craig Hopson heading the restaurant.

While eating in Beverly Hills is not known to be cheap, you should know that Farmhouse has a seasonal Harvest Menu that is three courses for $48 per person. You can choose from 3-4 options from each course. This is quite a nice deal to have in this area!

We ended up ordering a la carte but with a mix of items that were available on the prix fixe menu and not. We started with the Beets and burrata with pomegranate vinaigrette ($16)

This is a classic combination - and isn't the presentation just beautiful? You can tell from the photo how fresh the beets were.

Lightly cured albacore, marinade of vegetables, chili, coriander, citrus

Despite the chili and coriander garnish, the flavors didn't overwhelm the albacore.

Grilled oysters, fresno chili-lime butter, breadcrumbs
Famrhouse LA
These oysters were quite big! I typically order raw oysters rather than grilled but I really enjoyed the preparation here. Again, it was very flavorful but nothing overbearing.

Diver scallops, butternut squash, oyster mushrooms, swiss chard, chipotle vinaigrette ($34)

The scallops were nicely seared and the sweetness was complemented by the butternut squash.

Beef short ribs, shiitake, sweet onion, yam. So ... honestly, we ordered this because the shiitake comes from a farm called Shiitake Happens (how could you not?)

Roasted rack of lamb, orange braised carrots, parsley and mint ($42)
Famrhouse LA
The lamb was perfect - tender and didn't taste gamey, but surprisingly what I remember most about this dish were those carrots. Carrots aren't typically my go-to vegetable but the orange braised carrots here were so pleasantly and surprisingly sweet!

Rhubarb Clafoutis, almonds, chantilly cream
Famrhouse LA
The rhubarb clafoutis was the perfect end to our meal. We both loved it and couldn't stop eating this clafoutis. I would order whatever clafoutis they may have on future menus, that's how good this was.

Farmhouse also has a nice cocktail menu. Since I went in winter (yes that's how behind my blogging is), I got the Winter gin and tonic made with apple-infused gin, allspice, cinnamon, and Mediterranean tonic

Farmhouse is definitely one of the best dining options at the Beverly Center, and one you should consider trying in the area even if you're not visiting the mall. The spacious dining room is chic, not too loud, and the seasonal fare is a good one. Plus, how farm-to-table can you get other than at a restaurant owned by a farmer?
Notably, though, the $48 Harvest Menu is a nice deal, and one you don't need to wait for Restaurant Week for.
