Steak Flight with a View at Castaway in Burbank

I figured for Valentine's weekend, it's good to post about this restaurant with a view, right? Castaway in Burbank has quite the romantic setting, especially around sunset time.
Castaway Burbank
Castaway has been around for years but they had a major remodeling in 2018.

The cocktail menu was more interesting than what I had expected. I started with a Don Pedro Old Fashioned (Ilegal mezcal, spiced bourbon reduction, PX nectar - $15). It was a nice mezcal Old Fashioned, and look at that view!

Castaway has hired Perry Pollaci as executive chef .Chef Pollaci previously worked with the Patina Group and at The Royce at the Langham in Pasadena.

I'm behind on blogging, so some of the menu has changed since the time I went but at the time I had some heirloom tomato and burrata with watermelon, yuzu, white balsamic, black pepper, mache, basil, chia seeds  ($17)

Nothing too fancy but good quality and fresh ingredients. I do enjoy the watermelon in this.

Roasted scallops, asparagus puree, blood orange). I believe they have since swapped this out for "vegan" scallops

Of course, I can't help but order a side of the lobster and truffle potato (butter poached lobster, black truffles, chive - $18)
Castaway
The potatoes are pretty creamy and buttery, and the lobster was poached just right.

The main attraction we came for is the steak flight. Yes, steak flight.

We had a tasting flight of Cape Grim filet, Revier Cattle dry-aged ribeye, Snake River Farms American wagyu zabuton, Mishima Reserve New York ($118 for the flight)

With the flight you get 24 oz of steak, so this is definitely enough for 2-3 people to share. I love tasting the beef side by side. I tend to prefer dry aged steak, and in this case I also really enjoyed the dry aged rib eye from Revier Cattle (it's a certified Angus beef from Minnesota). They're served with different condiments so you can pair each one as you wish, including Himalayan pink salt, shallot confit, red wine shallot, and crushed pink peppercorn.
Castaway
Roasted tricolor cauliflower, hazelnut vinaigrette, cinnamon, currants, Fresno chile ($10)
Castaway
The cauliflowers are a good side to get, it's pretty flavorful with the Fresno chile.

I forgot what I had for dessert, unfortunately.
Castaway
I'm not sure how Castaway was before the reopening, but I think it's a solid restaurant with a great view and kind of hidden from all the hustle and bustle of LA. On the drive up I wasn't sure where I was going at first. The menu is approachable for the general audience, nothing overly adventurous but overall done well and Chef Pollaci adds some nice twists. The steak flight is definitely a draw and a great way to compare different breeds and cuts!

P.S. I recently suggested this restaurant to someone who was dropping someone off at Burbank airport and it only took less than 15 minutes to get to the airport, so it's a good option to keep in mind for that as well.
