But back to Island Creek Oyster Bar first, a mecca of fine seafood in the Fenway Kenmore area. It's started by the people behind the Island Creek Oyster farm down in Duxbury, MA, so you know they're getting their Duxbury oysters super fresh directly from the farm.
They have a nice variety of the freshest oysters. A lot of them come from Duxbury, and naturally while the other varietals rotate, they always have Island Creek oysters.
A great place to sample some varietals you haven't tried before.
Bread with honey butter |
Their most popular appetizer is perhaps the oyster slider ($4 each)
A crispy fried oyster is served between brioche bun with lime chile aioli.
I'm a huge fan of razor clams so I had to order them when I see them on the menu. At Island Creek, they were grilled and served with chunks of bacon.
You can expect to find the New England classics such as clam chowder and lobster roll. The clam chowder here is one of the best I've had in Boston.
Pictured here is actually half a bowl since they were nice enough to split it for my cousin and I. A lot of clams and bacon in the chowder, which was also not too thick yet still creamy.
Lobster Bisque ($11) with brown butter and lobster knucles.
Generous amount of lobster meat in the bisque:
A majority of their menu changes regularly, but one of the mainstay entrees is the Lobster Roe Noodles. The pasta is served with braised short rib, grilled mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, and pecorino cheese ($38)
This surf and turf pasta was flavorful, hearty, with plenty of fresh lobster.
Check out their rotating specials as well for the freshest catch.
Island Creek Oyster Bar is not cheap, but it's a great place to take visitors to try some New England seafood. They use the freshest ingredients and prepare them very well. You'll find classic New England dishes as well as their own unique items.
