Palm Springs Restaurants Week Pick: Mastro's Steakhouse
Despite being a big national chain, Mastro's Steakhouse is still one of the top steakhouses. Now, why would I write about the Mastro's in Palm Desert, you ask? That's because they're participating in Palm Springs Restaurant Week!
During the Restaurant Week media visit, we got treated to more than that, though. Of course, a splurge at Mastro's would usually include their famous seafood tower.
An impressive three-tiered (or does that little thing at the top count as 4?) tower. Oysters, king crab legs, shrimp cocktails, and mmm ... lobster .. all very fresh!
Of course, you have to get the steak (although they do have chicken and fish entree option for the Restaurant Week menu, in case you're taking a non-red-meat-eating date). We tasted their bone-in filet, bone-in Kansas City strip and the bone-in Rib Eye. All three steaks were excellent and cooked to a nice medium rare. Tender, juicy, bloody with a nice rub. It's hard to choose a favorite, but it might be the filet ...
Creamed corn is always a favorite side of mine, but they also have lobster mashed potatoes here! (Not a Restaurant Week option, though - you wish).
When choosing a steakhouse for a special occasion dinner, Mastro's Steakhouse is always considered. Their steak still stands strong even with all the new restaurant openings, their ambiance and service level top notch. I love that they decided to participate in Restaurant Week, allowing a larger audience to try them out, and maybe remember to return when they're celebrating something special. That $38 menu is an awesome deal! (and the chocolate layer cake is as tall as an iPhone)
Palm Springs Restaurant Week is running from May 31-June 16. Other restaurants to consider: Catalan, Dish.
