Loretta's Last Call: Southern Food and Live Music Steps From Fenway (Boston, MA)
The area near Fenway isn't just for sports bar. If you're looking for something different, head to Loretta's Last Call for some Southern food and live country music.
Tater tots? Arancini? Who needs either of those when you have these, bacon and cheese grit fritters!
The appetizers here are great to share with a big group, like the BBQ Chicken Wings ($10)
Fried pickles and jalapeno
The chili remoulade sauce that came with them already had a bit of a kick as well - you know, if jalapenos weren't enough for you.
Chicken and sausage gumbo ($14)
Even though the gumbo was missing okra, it was still a great bowl of gumbo - satisfying and warming for a chilly night out.
Fried chicken and waffles, maple BBQ, whipped butter ($14). They actually have three types of fried chicken here (buttermilk, classic Southern, and Nashville hot) - I think the one to come with the waffle was the buttermilk
The fried chicken that comes with this dish a boneless chicken breast. The boneless works better to eat with the waffle, but next time I want to try the fried chicken with the bone in. Overall this was good although I felt that there was a bit too much bbq sauce. I thought the chicken breast was moist and tender, though, and I loved the whipped butter.
Since I went to high school in South Carolina, I have a thing for sweet tea, so I had to get their Front Porch Sweet Tea. This drink is made with peach moonshine, sweet tea, and lemonade. Their drinks tend on the sweeter side.
The crowd started rolling in close to 10pm, which is when the live music starts.
The food at Loretta's was overall pretty good, I was surprised to find solid Southern food so close to Fenway! If you're ever looking to try a new place before or after a game, check out Loretta's.
