Fickle's New Spring Menu + $100 Gift Certificate Giveaway!

Little Tokyo is not just for ramen and sushi. There's plenty of diversity in the restaurants that have popped up there recently.

At Fickle, you will find a range of items from shrimp cocktails to Vietnamese style noodles. From the new spring menu, I liked the Kampuchia Shrimp with Pickled Carrot and Cilantro, Black Pepper and Lime Vinaigrette. Dip them generously in the sauce.

I also knew I had to get Santa Barbara Uni Bún (Cold Vermicelli Noodles, Mint, Cucumber, Nuoc Mam)

Executive Chef James Ta played around with the basic components of the Vietnamese Bún (that means noodles, not "bun") by adding one of my favorite ingredients, sea urchin! It works quite well with refreshingly clean noodles and cucumber.

I really liked the gremolata and almost licked the bone for that sweet ginger soy lacquer! Too bad they only have beer and wines here, so we couldn't do a bone luge ...
By the way, you can get one of these for $7 during their happy hour (M-F, 5-7pm). They also have $1 oysters during happy hour!

The steak was quite tender and I liked the slight spiciness of the kochujang marinade.

There was also Roasted Spring Leg of Lamb with Pickled Corn, Couscous, Mint Pistou
The lamb was surprisingly not at all gamey - I personally like the gamey flavor of lamb so I kind of missed that here. On the other hand, I couldn't stop eating the pickled corn!

Dessert was a rich tart of chocolate, hazelnut and salted caramel with Jameson Irish whisky ice cream (Fosselman's)

I'd love to try all the dishes, but the Santa Barbara Uni Bún looks particularly interesting. Been past this place a couple of times but never went in; major miss on my part, clearly.


I had to miss this tasting - and another one this past week - so I’d love to win this. Of course, they all sound delicious, but the dessert is CALLING MY NAME. Shouting it, in fact.


We went to the place once and it was really cool! Sounds like we should go again for the spring menu...
