Lunch Prix Fixe at Mario Batali's Del Posto (New York, NY)

One of the things I love about New York is the lunch prix fixes, allowing you to try some of the city's best restaurants for a lot less money. When I went with my mom and my aunt last time, we tried Del Posto's lunch: $49 for three courses (with an option to add pasta for $10). With three of us, we got to try a lot of things!

The lunch started with some complimentary finger sandwiches and Cauliflower soup

Bread service

The menu at Del Posto is seasonal, of course, though you might still find some mainstays like this
Vitello Tonnato (olive crostone, caper shoots, lime cells, lemon basil)

Vitello tonnato is a Piedmontese dish of veal slices served in a creamy tuna sauce.

Cotechino (stewed pistachios, chopped Preboggion - that's just mixed green leafy vegetables)
Cotechino is a pork sausage, but the distinction is that this pork sausage is typically made by boiling over low heat for a few hours. It gives a softer flavor than many other charcuterie.
My aunt ordered a salad, which I'm sure is a good salad ..

For entrees: Native swordfish, caponatina, toasted sesame, spring blossoms

Beautifully presented, the fish was tender and nicely cooked. I expected no less.

Of course, all three of us are meat eaters and loved the Neapolitan lamb with smoked tail, salsa madre, wilted water spinach

Since we've tried two entrees, I swapped mine with a pasta. I mean, how can I visit Del Posto and not try any pasta, right? I ordered the Pork and veal agnolotti, ramp sauce, crispy morels, split peas

The pasta was perfect, from the al dente texture and just the right amount of sauce.

Butterscotch semifreddo, melon agrumata, crumbled sbrisolona

Brown butter panna cotta, sour cherry marmellata, pasta frolla

Chocolate cherry tartufo, toasted almonds, olive oil crostone

The desserts were all good although this last one was my favorite. I'm partial to sweet cherries!

A fun presentation of petit fours

Our lunch at Del Posto was solid, with delicious food all around and spot on service! It was a great place to take my mom, also, who appreciated the elegant dining room, the little touches and presentation. I definitely recommend this if you're trying to decide which lunch prix fixe to go to in New York.
